CycleOps Fluid² Trainer

CycleOps' Fluid² Trainer utilizes Power Band technology to allow for distinct resistance changes without reaching to a lever on the unit. The large flywheel with fluid resistance delivers a smooth, realistic road feel while sturdy legs provide a stable platform for pumping out hard, 600-watt efforts and out-of-the-saddle climbs. A favorite among serious racers, the Fluid² is easily transportable and stands up to repeated punishment by the burliest of legs for years of impressive performance.

We've got two. Worth every penny

    By TCrunner

    About Me Avid Cyclist

    Comments:

We've had our first Fluid 2 trainer for more than a decade. After 10 years of sweat and gunk, I started hearing squeaking noises and thought a roller bearing might be going bad. When I called for advice on disassembly, instead, they sent me a new roller/fluid unit, just like that. I was dumbfounded. A couple months later, I bought a newer, 2nd unit because my wife was tired of switching the trainer between my bike and hers, and she thought we could pedal while watching TV together instead of potatoing on the couch. We do that pretty often, and at more relaxed speeds, this thing is very quiet -- so TV watching isn't tough. At higher speeds, it makes more noise, of course, but still less noise than the massive fan I need to use to keep from sweating to death. I love the fact that I don't need any resistance controller for these -- just shift into higher gear to move it faster, and the resistance goes up. The one (small) con is that after it warms up, maybe 10-15 minutes of tough riding, the resistance seems to take a quick jump up (picture a step in the curve) but from there on, it feels like a pretty smooth progression. If you are trying to hit a certain wattage level and can't, try putting a smaller-range cassette on your bike so you've got more closely-spaced rings. I train with HR and speedometer (mine's mounted in the back) and after that warm-up shoulder in the curve, I find that holding my speed at 17 mph puts me right into the heart rate zone I need in order to stay in shape. (I'm primarily a runner, but giving yourself a stress fracture in your femur will encourage cross-training.) That's a long way of saying I don't find the resistance erratic at all.

    Do NOT Buy This Trainer

    Pros

      Cons

      • Unstable

      Best Uses

        Comments:

Although this product works as intended it is completely unstable as in 10 minutes in once it gets warmed up it is close to impossible to hold target watts as the resistance increases more and more. Save your money

I live on the third floor in an apartment and was gifted a magnetic trainer. I felt terrible with how much noise it made so I sold it and bought the Fluid 2. I ride almost every day and I have not had one complaint. Definitely worth the investment, especially for those rainy/snowy days.

Trainer excellent, power training kit not so much

          Comments:

The trainer itself is great - easy to install, provides a smooth and relatively quiet ride, but the power training kit was a waste of money and I regret purchasing it.

          Comments:

I purchased a Fluid2 trainer a few weeks ago and have enjoyed using it every day. It affords me a great workout regardless of the time/weather, prepares me for the cycling season and is a non-impacting exercise alternative to running. Great product. Well built. Worth every penny.

          Comments:

I have had a Fluid 2 trainer since they were first introduced -- lot of years! It has received a lot of use and performed very well. Recently I noticed that it's resistance decreased and found some fluid on the floor. I called customer service -- no questions or problems, just send it to them, tell them my shipping order and they send a replacement immediately. Easy Squeezy. Easiest, fastest, politest, best support I've had in the last 200'years. I'm impressed and gratified.

Entry level trainer, basic but it does everything that you need. Believe me when I say it is hard to get outside from October to April in Toronto.

          Comments:

I have used this trainer vigorously for 6 years- - intervals, sprints, and tempo workouts. It has kept me sharp and fast. Recently, I had an issue and contacted the company for support. Their response was impressive. They absolutely stood behind their lifetime warranty. Furthermore, they shipped a replacement unit THE SAME DAY! All so I would not miss a workout. A high-quality product with service like this is rare.

          About Me Casual/Recreational Rider

          Comments:

I was hesitant to put out the money for the fluid trainer but thankful I did! It is relatively quite despite the hybrid tires I have currently. I would agree that it is the closest thing to a real ride. As with a real ride the resistance increase with speed. Easy to set up, though it would be nice if the instructions were a little more specific to the model and not as general. Overall very pleased and would recommend this item!

          About Me Competitive Cyclist

          Comments:

I've owned my CycleOps Fluid2 for some time now and racked up 1000s of miles on it when weather doesn't permit outdoor, or I just need to get some miles in for training. The only thing I've needed to replace on it is the flip handle and CycleOps offers that readily and at a great price direct from their website.
